There is well over a million people in the urban area of Amsterdam, and is located in the Province of North Holland. Amsterdam does not have a seat of government, which is in The Hague, but it is actually the biggest city and also the cultural and creative center of Netherlands. The very first pleasure cruise in the history of the Amsterdam canals took place way back in the 1620′s when Queen Elisabeth Stuart of Bohemia was welcomed into the city in a parade of festively decorated admiralty sloops, with over thousands of Amsterdam people cheering from the bridges and canal-sides.
Treating visiting royals and other VIP’s to a cruise on their canals became a tradition that still lives on to this day. Everyone from the Beatles to Nelson Mandela and Winston Churchill, almost all the famous guests that’s been to Amsterdam have made their acquaintance with the city from the seat of a canal cruise boat.
Heineken Experience
In 1864, Gerald Adriaan Heineken took control of De Hooiberg (the haystack) brewery, at the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal. This takeover purchase ended up laying the foundation for one of the world’s largest modern breweries. In 1867, the company began the construction of the Heineken Brouwerij placed at the Stadhouderskade. It produced more than a 100 million liters, which is about 26 million gallons. With fermentation tanks, each tank able to hold about a million glasses of Heineken, are still standing along with multi story malt silos and all manner of vintage brewing equipment.
